Sometimes, it is hard to see on the computer screen exactly how the text will look when the dog tags are stamped. 5 blank spaces between elements can be shown on the screen as 1 space and sometimes as multiple spaces.
If you select: “Exact number of spaces” this means if you put 5 blank spaces in the text after let’s say after a name, then we will put 5 spaces on the dog tags despite how it appears on your screen.
If you select: “Stamp text according to the format for the era” we are assuming you do not have an original dog tag and that we will format the text appropriate to the time period.
If you have an original dog tag, you can send it to us and we will figure out the spacing. See options below for uploading a picture.
Centered text is not military spec. Here is an example of each alignment:
Emboss–Newer Style (Raised lettering). Adopted by the US military in the 1980s. Approximately 50% of all US military bases use Emboss–it depends on what equipment is available at each base.
Indent–Vintage Style (Sunken lettering). Indent was the only type used during WWII, the Korean War, and The Vietnam War.
If you are unable to upload your photo now, please finish ordering. You can email your photo separately attached to an ordinary email sent to “sarg@armydogtags.com”.

Examples of hole placement:
Black tag with regular text. The paint is not removed from the letters.
Black tag with the paint removed from the letters, making the letters look white. The “white” color is achieved by seeing the underlying metal.

Sometimes, Shiny Stainless Steel is used.
These are the only two options shown on the current form.
Other colors are available and are not standard military issue. If you want to order one of these colors, click on the images shown below to visit those respective order pages:
Rolled Edge to the Front or Rolled Edge to the Back—neither is better than the other; it’s simply your preference.
